Obama Will Win in November

Overlooking the more experienced candidate for the more likeable one, the American public chose Bill Clinton in the election of 1992. This inability to see past the charm and the manipulation of public sentiment will happen again in 2008. The American public thinks this is American Idol and will choose the more likeable candidate once again. The problem is, likeability does not translate into competence.

We don’t need a snake charmer in the white house. We need a competent, experienced, and skilled leader. But the American public is too full of whimsy to elect one.   They are still stuck on Harry Potter, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings where the wise wizard always knows what to do and leads the warriors down the correct path to victory. If Americans think charm and grace go hand in hand with wisdom and judgment, they are sadly mistaken, and we will all be led down the path to defeat.

Charming enough to charm the snake from the basket, Barak Obama will win the presidency and proceed to set the precedence that public likeability is more important than competence and experience.

Apologies Aren't What They Used To Be

When I was a senior in high school way back in the 60s, I was the lead in the senior play.  The leading lady in the play was Lena.  Well, one night Lena and I stayed out too late after rehearsals and by the time I got her back to her parents it was way past her deadline.  The next morning my dad woke me up and read me the riot act and told me to go apologize to her parents for keeping their daughter out too late.  So I dragged myself slowly up to her door and upon being invited in, sat down and apologized for keeping Lena out too late.  I don't remember what I said, but I do know what I did NOT say.  I did not start out by saying "I want to apologize if you were upset...."

No one really apologizes any more.  They only apologize "IF" you were offended.  In other words, they throw it all back on you.  If you took offense, then they are sorry you took offense.  That is a pretty big "if".  It absolves them of their responsibility and in reality is not an apology at all.

In addition, no one actually apologizes.  The best they can do is to say they "want" to apologize.

Everyone does it, but the most famous has to be Jane Fonda who "wanted" to apologize to any Vietnam Vets that were offended by her actions.  Well, Jane, if you wanted to, maybe you could have just said it...."I apologize to all the Vietnam Vets for my actions in Hanoi.  They were insensitive and wrong.  I hope you can forgive me".  Maybe we would have and maybe we wouldn't have, but at least we would have given her credit for really apologizing.

All these boorish actors and actresses that are saying these unthinking and insensitive remarks about our soldiers or their families, when it comes time for them to publicly apologize (and they always seem to come to that point) then, maybe, just maybe, one of them will have the guts to actually say "I am sorry".

Your Local Postman Is Not A Hero (at least not because he delivered your mail for 30 years)

"Hero" should be reserved for people that put their own lives in danger to save another human being from death.  Without these two elements present--knowing full well that you are putting your health and safety in danger, and saving another person from death or injury--then it is not a heroic action.

For example, it has become fashionable to call someone who has been on the job a long time and has had a positive impact on people's lives a hero, but in fact, they are not heroes.  They may be "role models", but they are not heroes.

We need to reserve "hero" for the real heroes--firemen that rush into buildings to save others, policemen that put their lives on the line to save people, corpsmen and medics that rush into the line of fire to save wounded marines and soldiers, etc.  you get the picture.  If we continue to water down (I call it "hero inflation", like "grade inflation") the word hero, eventually we will have no word for the real heroes.  Well, I guess that is what it will come to, they will be called "real" heroes.  Point made...

And by the way, it turns out that my local postman is a hero.  He is a Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism under fire.

Politicians

My parents raised me with certain values that they considered important to my well being and to the well being of the country.  They made it very clear that there were certain behaviors that were wrong.  These included being someone who lied, cheated, backstabbed his fellow citizens, acted selfishly, was lazy, arrogant, two faced and/or false, and stole from others.  Above all they taught me not to think of myself first..to always place the welfare of others ahead of my own welfare.  And I assume, since all my friends in the small town in Maine that I grew up in, were brought up the same way, that a majority of american citizens were raised the same way.

Therefore, it is a great wonder to me that all of us rightly raised citizens of this great country continue to vote into office, at both the national level and the state and local level, people with all these negative traits.  I have not known of a politician in my life time that did not exhibit lying, cheating, arrogance, selflishness, and stealing.  We continually elect the lowest form of citizen to our public offices.  And then we wonder why the system is not working.  I will tell you why---because the politicians will do anything--anything-- to get elected and then to stay in office.

Politicians do more harm to the ordinary citizen than they do good.
I hold the farmers, loggers, and fishermen of Maine in higher regard than any politician.  This is more than cynicism, it is downright disgust.

The only good elected politician is one who did not want the job in the first place.

Billary Will Be The New Teddy

Hillary's done as a presidential candidate, this year and in any future years.  The poor campaign, the drop from high atop the mountain to the bottom of the barrel, will follow her the rest of her political life.  Unlike McCain who was defeated by Bush in the primaries in 2000, and then came back in 2008 to win the nomination, Hillary will not be able to come back in 8 years (or even four if McCain wins).
Everyone will remember that her presidential skills were tested with this campaign and it was clear she had none.  I have always maintained from the very beginning of her run for the NY senate seat that she was incompetent and inept.  My virtual bumper sticker has been "Can't you democrats find a better woman than Hillary."  There was nothing attractive about her abilities that made her a viable candidate for the New York seat, let alone for the presidency.

Since she will never gain the nomination for president (no matter how much Bill wants it), the best that she can do will be to retain her seat in the senate for years and years to come and become the party elder, like Teddy.  Soon, with grey hair and wrinkles, she will be the democrats lead senator with leftist, socialistic programs designed to help all the victims of capitalism in our unfair and unjust America.

The role will suit her well.

Caring About the Chinese (Threat)

Just read a blog on here extolling the virtues of the group "caring for china", and certainly any humanitarian group should be praised, but my caring about China comes from a whole different angle.  Don't get me wrong--as in any catastrophe, the loss of life is terrible and China's earthquake was horrendous.  But in reading about "caring for china's" role in helping, I tried to place that concern for China next to my concern that China will eventually be our number 1 enemy, if they are not already.  If you thought the threat of communism was serious during the 50s and 60s, that will be like a walk in the park next to China's present strategic plans to rule the global economy.

The fact that they are "supersizing" their military and sending it around the globe to help nations develop their military defenses; the fact that they are building offensive missle sites in Asia; the fact that it is not a secret that they desire to take Taiwan back; the fact that they have engaged in under-the-ocean naval manuevers;  each of these alone should cause our new president great concern.  Some day soon we will come face to face with the decision to defend our national interests in the Pacific (Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Austrailia, etc)against Chinese overt aggression.  I just hope we are militarily prepared, because I will tell you right now, we are not mentally, economically, or physically prepared to fight the Chinese.  Its a battle we will lose.

I hear the candidates talk about Iraq, Iran, terrorists, etc, but the real threat to the United States in this century is China and the threat will soon grow into an all out crisis.  Count on it.

Bogie at 2 O'clock, over--Roger, what do I do till then

This past Memorial Day, I came to the realization that the one group of men that I admire the most for their courage and sacrifice, the WWII veterans, are all gone from my life.  I grew up with these guys as my neighbors, family,  friends, etc.  My father, my uncles, my father-in-law--all WWII veterans and now, sadly, everyone of them has passed away.  They were always around me as I grew up, everyday, in all ways..teachers, coaches, church leaders, boy scout leaders---WWII veterans were everywhere.
We will never see that culture again.  Men and women who, having experienced the Great Depression and the Second World War, put it all behind them to start a family, own a home, build a career, do community work without any recognition, and raise their kids.

Now they are all gone.  WWII veterans are dying at the rate of 2,000 a day, but that number means little to me.  The ones in my life have already gone.  I will miss them.  Thank you guys, not only for your sacrifices to ensure our freedoms, but for providing us with everything we could ever want while we were growing up.  In no small ways, you continued to sacrifice for our benefit, even after the war was over.

It's All Bonnie Rait's Fault

This coming winter, you are all going to freeze to death (or go broke paying your heating bill). Me, I have enough wood chopped and seasoned to last a lifetime (according to my wife, who never understood why I wanted so much wood stacked in the back yard). But the rest of you, well, lets just say, you won't be complaining about the price of gas for your car this winter. No, compared with the cost of heating oil and natural gas, gasoline will be like penny candy.

And why is this Bonnie Rait's fault. Because she and others like Jackson Browne started, pushed and forced the whole "no nukes" policy on the whole nation. (well, at least the whole nation of baby boomers) Nuclear power is the only global climate friendly source of energy there is, and those california pot heads ruined any chance that we might develop it in time to save millions of people from freezing. It will come down to food or heat for some people in the northeast this winter. Sing about that Bonnie...

Get Your Kicks on Route 66

I just realized that the old U.S. Route 66 is no more.  That's too bad.  I was lucky enough to have driven Route 66 back in the early 70s and it was quite an experience.  I will never forget the loneliness and desolation of the Texas panhandle, Arizona and New Mexico.  And the open highway with wind (very, very hot wind) blowing in the windows...well, that was one experience that left a lasting impression on me.  America was huge, beautiful and hot as hell.

For all of you folks that are trying to preserve the old highway landmarks (dingy old gas stations for one thing), I wish you luck.  The problem is that when you restore an old gas station, there is no way to give it the atmosphere it once had as a miserable, old, dirty, aging hole in the wall.  But I give you credit for trying.

Our Inneffectual Education System

The education system, from K through 16 is mired in feel good, immature, baby boomer self absorbtion, PC-laden, diversity-first, inneffective educational policies. The unexpected consequence of the drive in the 70s to protect and develop the self esteem of students, has led to a self-absorbed, me-first (and only) generation of educators who want only to feel good about themselves and don't believe in saying "no" to any student desires.

Just like the frog that gets thrown into cold water and then stays there while the water heats up to a boil, americans are not aware of the tremendous "grade inflation" changes that have occurred over the last 40 years.   Teachers do not want to harm a child's sense of self esteem, so grades have gradually edged upwards until we have reached a point where todays "A" grade was yesteryear's "C".  Heaven forbid we should 1. criticize the work of a child, 2. create separations of children based on their academic achievements.

And don't even get me started on "No Child Left Behind".  Yeh, no child--except mine.  Homework that doesn't get graded, less emphasis on superior work, more inclusion of less academcally prepared students, less homework, grade inflation.....todays smart students are getting the short end of the stick at school.  No wonder the Amercans pulled out of the world math competitions.

As We Used To Say In The 60s--Right On!!!

I am reprinting whole what this professor wrote to the Muslim Student Association because he is right.  We need to understand that they mean to put us all under Sharia law or eliminate us from the face of the earth.

Wichman sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student's Association.
The e-mail was in response to the students' protest of the Danish cartoons
that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.
The group had complained the cartoons were 'hate speech'
Enter Professor Wichman. In his e-mail, he said the following:
Dear Moslem Association,
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to protest your protest. I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders,
murders of Catholic priests, (the latest in Turkey), burnings of Christian churches,
the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt ,  the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called 'whores' in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland , and the rioting and looting in Paris France .
This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues.
I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile 'protests.'
If you do not like the values of the West - see the 1st Amendment - you are free to leave.
I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option. Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

Cordially,
I. S. Wichman, Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Safer in Iraq Than Driving On American Highways

One of the national shames that no one talks about is the number of deaths of teens due to car accidents on our american roads.  Each year, 5,000 teens between the ages of 16 and 20 die on our highways and 400,000 are seriously injured.  It is not hard to conclude therefore, that the teenage GIs in Iraq are safer than they would be if they were home and driving around.

The Frog is Being Boiled to Death (and he doesn't even know it)

I remember clearly in high school biology learning that a frog will boil to death if you put him in a pot of cold water and then turn the heat on.  He never realizes that the water is heating up and he stays in there until he is killed.  The Islamic threat to our culture, indeed, our very existence is just like the water, and we are the frog.
I am pasting this whole from the email that is going around so that I may never lose it, and always be reminded of how serious this threat to our society is.  Just look at Sudan (70% Muslim) where the Islamic government has supported the massacre of 200,000 to 400,000 non muslims.

                 Islam as a System

Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond's book: Slavery, Terrorism and Islam:
The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat.. www.frontlineorg.za/books_videos/sti.ht

Islam is not a religion nor is it a cult. It is a complete system. Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components. Islamization occurs when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their so-called 'religious rights.'

When politically correct and culturall y diverse societies agree to 'the reasonable' Muslim demands for their 'religious rights,' they also get the other components under the table. Here's how it works (percentages source CIA: The World Fact Book (2007)).

As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they
will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:

United States -- Muslim 1.0%
Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1%-2%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:

Denmark -- Muslim 2%
Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%

>From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influe nce in proportion to their percentage of the population.

They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. (United States).

France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- Muslim 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris -- car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amste rdam - - Mohammed cartoons).

Guyana -- Muslim 10%
India -- Muslim 13.4%
Israel -- Muslim 16%
Kenya -- Muslim 10%
Russia -- Muslim 10-15%

After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:

Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%

>From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:

Albania -- Muslim 70%
Malaysia -- Muslim 60.4%
Qatar -- Muslim 77.5%
Sudan -- Muslim 70%

After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide:

Bangladesh -- Muslim 83%
Egypt -- Muslim 90%
Gaza -- Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia -- Muslim 86.1%
Iran -- M uslim 98%
Iraq -- Muslim 97%
Jordan -- Muslim 92%
Morocco -- Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan -- Muslim 97%
Palestine -- Muslim 99%
Syria -- Muslim 90%
Tajikistan -- Muslim 90%
Turkey -- Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates -- Muslim 96%

100% will usher in the peace of 'Dar-es-Salaam' -- the Islamic House of Peace -- there's supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim:

Afghanistan -- Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
Somalia -- Muslim 100%
Yemen -- Muslim 99.9%

Of course, that's not the case. Muslims then start killing each other for a variety of reasons.

'Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world and all of us against the infidel. -- Leon Uris, 'The Haj'

It is good to remember that in many, many countries, such as France , the Muslim populations are centered around ghettos based on their ethnicity.. Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. Therefore, they exercise more power than their national average would indicate.

Pay Elementary Teachers More Than Professors

It has always been my opinion that the highest paid teachers in the land should be the elementary school teachers.  The real future of our country is in their hands.  They are the ones most responsible for producing a citizen that is well educated, aware, curious, intelligent and caring.

Believe me, it is more important to the country to have good elementary teachers than it is to have good professors.

The Perception of Power

Just watched "Thirteen Days, The Story of the Cuban Missle Crisis" and am reminded that throughout history, the perception of power is one of the most important protective devices a country has.  Any sign of weakening and other countries are ready to take advantage.

The thing that all americans must keep in mind is that dictators and autocratic  leaders like Krushev, Castro, Stalin, Ahmadinejad, etc only respect one thing-strength.  If you are not strong, they don't miss any opportunity to expose that weakness and take advantage of it.

I fear how far down the respect chain we will fall with Obama as president.
